Edvard munch : “My sufferings are part of myself and my art they’re indistinguishable from me” I took 3 symbols for suffering, 3 symbols for art and tried to visualise their coexisting nature. They’re all always together.

This project started with the idea to create awareness around mental health, using typography and motion graphics as a medium. On further research, the project stumbled upon an intriguing correlation between creativity and mental health. It was this fascinating aspect that this project decided to further explore and delve into, exploring how creative individuals and their artistic expression has been influenced by their demons — their mental illness.

This project sits at the intersection of art, psychology, and design. It ambitiously builds upon existing knowledge, theories and studies, while simultaneously identifying and highlighting areas that require further exploration and understanding. The goal is to show how design can contribute to mental health awareness and how mental health can shape creative expression. Given the growing global awareness and discourse surrounding mental health issues coupled with the undeniable power of art as a catalyst for change and inspiration, this project becomes increasingly relevant and significantly important. By shining a light on this aspect of human experience, I hope to foster empathy, reduce the stigma that so often surrounds mental health stigma, and promote well-being.

The framework centers around the exploration of the intersection between creativity and mental health, particularly focusing on how individuals within creative fields navigate and express their mental health experiences. My primary aim is to delve into the nuanced relationship between artistic expression and mental well-being, seeking to understand how creative practices can both worsen and improve mental health challenges.

Virginia Woolf : To emphasise the “sheer inability” to move, I’ve tried to show a room with window and show a time-lapse of the day(s) passing by with light coming and going.
Publication about the project.
Vincent van gogh : I’ve broken down the quote by vincent van gogh and visualised them into different boxes.
Glimpse of the publication.
